Arnoux-Lachaux Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Proces 2015

The 1er Cru Clos des Corvées Pagets is one of Nuits, lesser known, benchmark terroirs. It is brilliantly situated within the Clos des Corvées, at the start of Premeaux (so, between the vineyards of Les Saint-Georges and the Clos de la Maréchale). This limestone rich part of the Nuit’s AOC give wines of striking perfume, finesse and longevity. Clive Coates notes that Corvées means a ‘thankless task’ in reference to the rockiness of the soil and the arduous ploughing conditions that result. The Arnoux-Lachaux family farm a 0.55 hectare parcel of 70 year old vines. An ‘iron fist in a velvet glove’ kind of wine that was vinified 70% whole bunch and 50% new oak.

This is notably complex with its subtly wooded nose of earth black currant, game, smoke and lovely floral hints. There is markedly better concentration to the delicious and suave middle weight flavors that possess excellent intensity and volume as well as impeccable balance. This isn't as refined as the Chaumes but the additional concentration and complexity make this the more interesting wine.
