Gembrook Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Estate grown 33 year old vines. The consistently warm summer produced a wine with slightly higher alcohol than usual, resulting in a sauvignon blanc with more body, giving it a rich mouth feel, while maintaining its herbacious flavours. This is a sancerre like Sauvignon blanc that displays restraint, texture, minerality and purity of fruit. This is pure class and lives up to the widely held belief that this is one of Australia’s best.
It boasts both power and composure but best of all is the wine's honed stately length. controlled and long, are the best words to describe this wine. it tastes of barely, woodsmoke, herbs, steel and tropical fruit. the net effect all of juicy, complex and flavoursome. A certain chalkiness to the finish works well here too, as always.94The Wine Front
Half of this wine is fermented in seasoned French Oak, the other in stainless steel and both parcels on lees for 9 months. The end result is a vibrant, fresh wine with complexity and as always, a whole lot of restraint. Expect some lemon zest, bees wax and a smidge of pine needles. While the palate is still tight, there are ripples of texture just below the surface.95Halliday's Wine Companion
