Spinifex Moppa Grenache 2018
Out of stock
Cropped from the same vineyard as the Moppa Shiraz. Schell has been making Grenache from this vineyard since 2005, but this is the first year a pure Grenache has been made from this site—so this tells you something about the quality in 2018. Similarly to the Shiraz, this was hand-harvested and wild-fermented (with 40% whole bunches) in open fermenters. The must was gently pumped over during the early phases of fermentation, with pigeage and treading throughout, and pressing after 16 days. This has class and restraint written all over it. The aromatics are pure and intense, with ripe raspberry, redcurrant and rose petal, as well as white pepper and musk notes shining through on the nose and in the mouth. It’s juicy, fresh and vibrant with a long aromatic close and fine sandy tannins driving the finish. To be frank, this has the kind of finesse and drinkability that’s rarely delivered by the Barossa—and certainly not from Châteauneuf these days. Another amazing bargain.
